Elvis in his Gold Lame Suit, Ca. 1957.

Elvis is arriving somewhere – he was always arriving somewhere until he began to isolate himself – surrounded by a group of solemn men, all older and far less handsome that he is; he looks like a prince surrounded by hirelings. Elvis's suit retains a touch of tarnished gold wash, with a uniform band set around the central image to lend a sense of iconic royalty. Elvis’s face expresses remarkable vulnerability and fore-knowledge of someone who understands that he is about to be assassinated and can do nothing about it.
